Almost Human Big Bang
May 03, Writers' Checkpopint #3.
3rd-May-2014 12:29 am
The guys snuggling
This is the third writers' checkpoint for the Almost Human big bang.

About the checkpoints:

All of our checkpoints are completely optional. If you've signed up to write a big bang project and you just want to get on with writing it, that's perfectly fine. You're under no obligation to check in at all until the submissions deadline. If you aren't ready to check in your own project, consider joining in to support our other writers.

So why should you bother to check in? Well, the checkpoints are here for several reasons:

• To help writers pace themselves in writing: each checkpoint will tell you how far along you should be if you're aiming to write steadily on the schedule.

• To let the writers drop some hints about their projects - this helps everyone watching get excited about the fanworks to come, but it also gives our artists a chance to consider which stories they're interested in claiming.

• To let people compare their progress with others, ask for help, for other people to offer help etc.

• And to remind everyone that the challenge is still happening :)

Target for Checkpoint #3:

If you're pacing your writing to fit the timetable of the challenge, you should now have about 7,500 words, or 75% of your project written. It's fine if you're not there yet! That's just the target to aim for.

There's no obligation to write to this schedule; the target word counts for each checkpoint are only for those who find it helpful. Some of us like to write at a steady pace; others work better in irregular bursts of inspiration. If the slow-and-steady approach doesn't fit the way you work, feel free to ignore the targets.

How to "check in":

Please comment using the template below to let us know how you're doing.

Name:
Your project:
Tell us a little about your progress:
Anything else you want to say (e.g. Do you need any help? Lacking inspiration or need a sounding board? Want to rant a little?):

Feel free to share some details about your project, maybe a summary or some hints, but please don't post actual extracts. There'll be a post for that as we come toward the end of the challenge, but this is too early.

To repeat: the checkpoints are completely optional.

A note about replying to writers: I want to encourage you to reply to check-ins. Let our writers know you're excited about their work! And if someone's asking for help, please feel free to offer it. But please bear in mind the purpose of these posts is to be supportive.

A Note about messages to mods. If you have any questions, ideas to share or problems, please contact us at mods at almosthumanbigbang@gmail.com .

Congratulations. Way to go. It might not have been what you had originally wanted, but I'm sure it's great. I for one, can't wait to read it. :)

Project: "Concept of Mind", an ensemble case!fic crossover with Heroes.
Progress: Not a whole lot, but some.
Completed Wordcount: 1,591 (+460 from last checkpoint)
Outline: 4,764 (+135 from last checkpoint)
Anything else you want to say: I might be able to salvage my progress on this if a. I really buckle down and don't let myself even think of any other fics, and b. no more of my family members suffer sudden and alarming health problems. Just...damn.

Your project: John & Dorian road trip fic!
Tell us a little about your progress: I'm sitting at just over 8000 words, on my way to what should be a 13-15K story.
Anything else you want to say: Story had caught fire. I'm writing pretty quickly now, though I hope real life doesn't blow up, which it might do at any moment. I have a good cheerleader in my writing partner. Looking forward to getting this done.

Glad to hear how far you've gotten already. Congrats.

Thanks.

This comm isn't showing up on my friends' feed, which is bizarre and why I've missed the checkin points. It shows I'm a member of the comm, so I can't figure out why it's not coming up. Is there a setting I'm missing?

Well, that's weird. Let me go and see if it's showing up on mine. Okay, it's there, so it's not me. You're on our members list, so I have no idea why it's not showing up. I will have to see what Morgan says.

I'm receiving notifications of your comments, so that's good. Thanks for checking into this for me. I'd hate to miss the start of posting, though I can just set a reminder for myself. :D
