Almost Human Big Bang aims to bring together the creative talents of Almost Human fandom in a fannish fiction and art fest. The first Almost Human Big Bang takes place in 2014; we hope this will become an annual event.
A Big Bang is a showcase of creative talent in fandom, and fandom has a lot of talent. Writers and fan artists collaborate on on projects and the end result is a fest of Almost Human stories, non-fiction essays, artworks and multimedia for everyone to enjoy!
The mods for the challenge are Morgan Briarwood (briarwood) and Patt Rose (pattrose). We've been running the sentinelbigbang since 2010 so we have some experience at this. We plan to run this Big Bang on similar lines - a bit different from some BBs but the basic concept should be familiar.
Taking part in the challenge
The almosthumanbang community on Livejournal will be used to co-ordinate the challenge and to collate all the stories and other fan works.
The challenge is open to all fans of Almost Human, whether they are Livejournal users or not. The mods will do everything we can to make the community and the challenge accessible to those who prefer not to use Livejournal.
Summary: Plagued by nightmares and sleeplessness, John is given a stark choice - quit his job or get therapy and sort out his issues once and for all. At first, quitting seems like his best option, but thanks to his Dorian's stubbornness (and a little help from their friends) he finds he has something worth living for after all.

Everything is in place, and we're ready to begin posting for our first Almost Human big bang!
Posting will begin tomorrow (Monday) and continue with a new story each day until we run out of stories. Unfortunately that won't take long; we only have three.
Each story has been beautifully illustrated by our artists and will be available as a regular web page and also as an ebook. For ebooks there are three format choices: PDF, epub and mobi, which should cover most modern e-readers. Mobi is compatible with Kindles, and the PDFs are sized so they can also be printed if you're one of those people who likes to read from real paper.
Writers and artists: as soon as the big bang copy of your story is posted in this community, you are welcome to repost it elsewhere.
Lastly, from Patt and myself, thank you to everyone who helped make this happen. They might have cancelled our show, but they can't kill our love for it!
Hi everyone. Just wanted to update you on our progress. All the stories and artworks are now in. It looks amazing! But we're going to be a bit later than planned with the postings.
Here's what happens next. The writers and artists should be getting an email shortly with a preview link to their prepared story posts. If you don't receive anything by Saturday please let us know!
We'll be asking you to approve the story post - that is, make sure I haven't accidently missed a chunk of story when I converted it, make sure the art is the right one for the story, correct any last minute typos you see and so on. The email will explain.
Once everyone has given their OK, I've got to make e-book copies of everything and then we'll begin posting the stories - hopefully early next week.
A one week warning that final art is due 27 July and if you wish for a short extension, you must ask ahead of time. Otherwise, we will figure that everything is coming along smoothly. Good luck to all of you. Contact us at almosthumanbigbang at gmail dot com.
This is your friendly neighbourhood mod reminding all TSBB artists that we require a rough draft of your work by 15 July at the latest.
A rough draft is required only so the mods can confirm you are working on something - it can be very rough - no one is going to judge it or anything like that. If your art is pictures, you can just send a copy of whatever you've got so far. If you're working in some other media - music, video and so on - a short cut or even a screenshot of your workspace will do the trick.
This is important because, as mods, Patt and I need to ensure that every big bang story has some artwork to go with it. If we don't receive a rough draft by the deadline, we will immediately start looking for a pinch hitter for your assignment. There are no exceptions to this and no extensions on the deadline for rough drafts. If you're worried you won't be able to get online on the 12th, send it sooner, not later. Rough drafts should be sent to AlmostHumanBigBang at gmail dot com. Please include the project name or number in your email so we can match them up.
Final Art Submissions
The final deadline for finished artworks is 27 July but this deadline can be flexible if you need more time to polish your work. Just email us and ask.
For this big bang, all stories and artworks are posted, initially by the mods. If you are creating artwork that needs to be presented in a particular way, for example at a specific point in the story, please let us know when you submit it. If you submit by the deadline you will have a chance to preview the final post and request changes before it's live for everyone.
